About The Artist
Creative moments are the heartbeat of Janie Coltrin’s artistic career. A San Francisco native whose family migrated to St Helena, Janie started a custom toy and furniture business while in college. She was known for her one of a kind hand painted creations. She took this business to Hawaii where continued to delight her lucky clientele while also teaching fine woodworking and cabinetmaking at a local junior college.
Also while living in the islands, Janie became a much sought after architectural photographer with her photos often appearing in publications such as Hawaii Luxury Home, Jetset Magazine, and Unique Homes.
Janie began fine art painting 20 years ago while living on Kauai and never stopped. You see in her paintings a playful and whimsical element with bold colors and an interesting palette.
Her paintings are often influenced and inspired by unique vignettes that she finds in her environment.
Janie returned to Northern California where she currently resides, sketching, painting, illustrating and creating a printable art business. Her bright colors, lyrical and quirky compositions often bring a smile to your face.
About Her Paintings and Sketches.
Janie’s paintings are on vinyl with acrylic paints that are painted from front to back rather than back to front as one might find on canvas. It is in the style of reverse painting on glass. The finished paintings are then backed by canvas and stretched. Her sketches are graphite on paper and usually much smaller in size. Her sketches are often inspired by her photographs and are studies for works that she may later paint.
